Because the attic in the Chantilly is too tiny to be useful I thought I'd build it without the attic floor, so that the beams can be seen in the ceiling of the second story. But since the roof supports attach to the floor, that's not an option. I'm thinking about cutting away all the parts of the floor I don't need. I did a trial with a piece of tagboard. Does anyone that has already built the Chantilly see a problem with this? I'm worried I might mess up support for the roof.

Hi! I was thinking about doing the same, at least in the left room (when I finally get mine, lol). If you use the attic floor and cut in it I don't think there would be a problem..?

From looking at the roof parts as I stained them tonight, I think you'd be safe to go with this approach, it looks like the "beams" support the gables mainly and the roof parts are fairly large - as long as you can keep the warping to a minimum I think you're golden on this approach.

I agree. The main beams are also supported by the walls, with the exception of the one on far right, which is supported by another beam. I'm already cutting.

What a great idea! I have a half scale that has now been neglected. Once I put the floor into the attic - it just seemed like a waste. Hmmm...I don't think it would be too hard to take mine apart and start again!
