Fareeda's kitchen

Jo Med

She's a busy lady and cooks great food on her antiquated gas cooker and the barbeque outside.

I added a third wall to the kit because my main workshop wall was a bit warped and despite a couple of attempts I couldn't de warp it. It meant that the addition could actually stand alone but in the end I glued it to the main building. Glueing helped to unwarp the main wall a bit.

I plastered the kitchen walls before I assembled the kitchen. I put a strip of masking tape down each edge that had to be glued and then

I mixed polyfilla with water to make a kind of plaster which I spead on the walls using an old credit card. It didn't have to be perfect in this building and it gave me great practise for the future. Making it flat involved dipping the card in water and smoothing it over the walls until I got a satisfactory finish. Then I painted the walls with white emulsion - 2 coats - and then a griming up coat of the oak stain varnish I used in the toilet. The emulsion was the type with a semi sheen so I painted the varnish on all over to give an aged look wiping any excess off and then concentrated a thicker layer round the edges. When this was all dry, I removed the masking tape and assembled the walls.

The tiled bit at the front is a flap hinged with chamois that allows me to get to the electrics.
