Spring Fling 2010 - Hasan's Place

Spring Fling 2010 - Hasan's Place

My first competition entry.
HASAN’S PLACE
Hasan and Fareeda live in a remote fishing village way off the beaten track in a part of the world previously known only to a few adventurous individuals. Fishing is a way of life but Hasan is also the local handyman and can turn his hand to almost anything. A shrewd businessman, Hasan was quick to capitalise when in the mid to late sixties more and more travellers began seeking out new locations and experiences. He built a restaurant addition to his fishing shack and brought Fareeda from their village house to do the cooking. This new breed of tourist had money to spend and their thirst for novel experiences and authenticity meant that they mostly turned a blind eye to the state of the facilities in exchange for fresh grilled fish straight from the ocean, fishing trips in “The Odelisque”, moored in the harbour and fondly referred to by his customers as “Sailbad the Sinner” and fishermen’s tales told long into the night. Who cares what lurks in the kitchen; (apart from Fareeda) they would have stories to tell and photos to pass round when they got back home.
Hasan’s place is very popular and you will always find a steady stream of tourists. Today, Fareeda’s paternal uncle has dropped by for a cool drink and most days you will find Pete (Lone Wolf Creations) whiling away a few hours gazing out to sea with his telescope and chatting to his old friend Hasan. Richard and Kate are enjoying a holiday away from Nico, the goth daughter in the Garfield and Dreads and Molly were travelling around the world when they stopped off in Hasan’s village where they have been renting a room for the last 5 months. They seem reluctant to move on.
People are all made by me with the exception of Pete (still calls Wolfie Mum), Richard and Kate.
