Porch soffit

otterine

I wanted to finish the porch soffit before permanently attaching the second floor so I wouldn't have to work upside down. I used 1/16" x 5/16" bass wood. I had originally planned to paint it white, but I think it looks awesome as is. I'll paint the nosing and porch posts and rails white, but the soffit itself will be sealed to keep the natural look of the wood.

this looks so awsome.

How do you only build one floor at a time? Aren't the walls 2 story high? Did you cut them down to one story? It's seem like it would be much easier to work on a house if you could just do one floor at a time.

Thanks, Kim! The walls in the kit are one-floor tall. Then there are floor boards in between that go on top of each, so you build it like a layer cake. :D Some people don't decorate until after the build, even with houses like these, but I am trying to do as much as possible to each floor before adding the ceiling/floor of the next level.

That picture looks like a real house. I have a house called the Charmingland Farmhouse and it was built like that. Of course it's much smaller but when I started it I had to completely do the first floor and then add the second floor. I had never seen a house like it before. Did you put on all the brick or does the house come that way?

This is magnificent.

The whole idea of building floor by floor is one that Greenleaf should seriously look at in any new designs. It would make the whole job so much easier.
