kawinkle 0 Posted August 28, 2009 I didn't go far enough into your photos to see that the skinny stick idea worked out! I got excited when I saw the bag of skinny sticks. Now I am ready to fidget with mine. What length did you use for the boards? Quote Link to comment
cjme63 5 Posted August 28, 2009 I cut the sticks into a few different lengths - some in half, in threes, some random lengths, and you'll end up cutting some to fit whatever length you have left when you get to the end of each row. The trick is (as I know from my husband who's installed real hardwood floors) is not to have any of the ends line up so it's all completely random. Also pay special attention to lining them up evenly along your doorjams - it'll look a lot better. I learned the hard way. If you're putting in baseboards you don't have to worry too much about the wall edges. You can stain the floor after it's installed - it's much easier. I made a cut out form of the floor with a vinyl tile and stuck the sticks onto the sticky side. I'd recommend a little glue though, as some of them pop up, but you can spot glue those ones too. Then once it's all in place and stained you just pop it in (you can run wiring tape under it too. Good luck! It's really easy and fun once you get going. Quote Link to comment
