MerrimackStoneWall.jpg

I am back to working on the outside of the Merrimack.  On Saturday, I put the foundation on.  This is the only house I’ve ever done where you put the foundation on after building the house, but it worked out pretty well.  I’ve also started the stone wall that goes on the right side of the back of the house.  The stones are made by applying a stick-on stencil (the cut-outs for the rocks were supposed to stick to the peel-off sheet, but they stuck to everything else, including the floor, my clothes, my hair and, especially, my fingers).  Once I got the stencils on, I mixed up the paste for the stones.  I think I might have made it a little too wet, but it turned out OK.  I’m painting the stones individually.  I have a lot of touch-up to do, and may finish with a white or light gray wash to tone down all the colors a bit.  The remaining siding will be natural wood strips applied vertically or, possibly, at a 45 degree angle.
