MerrimackFirstFloorLights.jpg

First floor lights.  The two ceiling fixtures went in easily.  (The pendant light will be going over a small dining table that I have yet to build.)  The lamps, however, have been a royal pain.  I was trying to use the Cir-kit mini outlets.  I changed out the plug on the lamp, no problem.  The outlet worked when I touched the spikes in the outlet to the tape wire.  However, once I got the outlet in, it stopped working.  This happened three times (a fourth if you consider I tried one more time in the upstairs bedroom).  I kept trying different solutions.  Three hours (!) and many, many magic words later, I finally gave up and hard-wired the lamp in. There will just be a little notch in the baseboard to let the wire through.  It didn’t help that I was working in the back corner and practically had to stand on my head to get back in there and see what I was doing.  Because the second floor goes on before the left wall, I couldn’t do it before putting the floor on.  In retrospect, I should have run the tape to the front of the living room, but I honestly didn’t expect the outlet to be that much of a hassle.

I feel your pain. When doing the barn, I thought I'd be so clever and hide multiple plugs in the taperun behind the top floor beam. This way I could make up the hanging lights any time during the project and change fixtures and bulbs much easier in the future. Only one of them worked so after fussing with it over and over, ripping out wallpaper to recheck connections, I ended up hard wiring like you. Maybe it is just me, but I have concluded that those plugs just don't play nice with mdf walls.

My first electrical was the Princess Anne with MDF walls and it was a real pain, just like you after all the effort the lights didn't always work. Again really enjoying this house and am I noticing some beautiful real life wall paper or fabric behind the house, I like that too!

So glad to know that I am not alone.  I could not figure out what I was doing wrong.  I'll just conclude it's not me, it's them.  :-)

Debora--  Thank you.  We do love our real life home, too.  And I noticed, after I took the shot, that the bungalow is framed in the upper right-hand corner.

I'm sure you'll get them working Deborah.......I'm liking those that are though and it's already looking like a nice place to be!
