yellow repairs

stickyfingers

Here it is so far. I used wooden dowels to get the basic shape of the voids, then filled in (and in, and in) with wood putty. I smear a bit of putty, let it dry, sand and shape. Repeat as needed. It's not perfect, but I'm hoping after priming and paint, it will all blend in. Still working on it, but almost done!!

Wow, Linda! It really is looking great! Your patience is paying off, and I bet you are learning so much about wood filler that will really come in handy for a future project!

Thanks! It's not as hard as I thought it would be, but there's a lot of down time waiting for putty to dry. And I found that if you try and sand before it's fully cured, it just crumbles off. So, I smear it on everything that needs it, then just wait and work on something else while it dries. It was lucky that all of the details on the right side were intact, so I could just copy them on the left. I'm using a wooden skewer and a ruler to check that the profiles line up and are roughly the same. High tech!
