This photo shows the left wall of the second floor landing. This room will be white to match the reception room below it, but will have this patterned mulberry paper instead of the one with leaves that I used downstairs.

I'm really liking the paper choices.  I can see your paper love already.  I don't think it's really a big deal if it is faithful to the period you wanted to set the house in.  I think the patterns in the paper are subtle enough to work fine.  I ended up going to the little Japanese shop in Florence and at a Japanese festival to find some specialty papers.  It looks like you have a lot to chose from!!!

Thanks Peggy. Yeah, I was trying to keep the background papers subtle so I could go over the top with the fusuma doors, and not clash too much. I have some really nice dragon paper I will probably use in the next tatami room though, and that one isn't subtle!

I do have some of the same paper you used in your red room. I love the way it looks with the colored paint underneath it. I will probably use that paper in the third floor central room, but will keep it white to match the central rooms on the other floors.
