Stonework #3

Trinh

I cut out a double door section in the "kitchen area" for a future idea.  I cut a little area out of the back room so I could see & paint better.  Then, I painted the house white, inside and out.  I masked off the roof edges because I wanted to stain the shingles later. I then decided I'm changing the outside a bit.  So, I painted the areas that I may add stone a dark gray.  Since I couldn't find a tutorial on stones, I talked to a local miniaturist and she said use egg cartons and paint them. I started on the stone a few nights ago.

So that is egg cartons? Fantastic. Love your painting. I'm in the process of doing stonework too. Was going to do egg cartons but decided to try paperclay.

What did you use as grout?

Thanks! I'm using egg cartons.  I couldn't find a full on tutorial for stones (I read thru Otterine's tutorial on bricks), but I modified it a bit.  I went to a local chinese restaurant & got a ton of egg cartons (for freeeeee!). I tried to paint a few with acrylic paints and didn't like the color.  I tried artist chalk instead.  I rubbed the cartons with the chalk and then used a rubbing alcohol water mix to dilute some of the colors.  I wanted something dark, so I used a lot of chalk. I haven't finished yet, so I haven't grouted them.  If you have any thoughts on what to use I am all ears :)  I need the help!
