Building Bunkbeds: 1

havanaholly

I decided to make a set of bunkbeds for the children who will live in Maggie. I measured the bunk-sized mattress on our punee (Hawaiian day-bed) and converted it to 1:12 scale and drew patters for the bed bottom and for head- & footboards. I used a 1/4" square dowel for the uprights. I calculated from remembering our sons' bunkbeds that the lower bunk was 1.5' from the floor and the upper bunk about 4' above the lower, with another 1' of post above that to support the head & footboards. I traced the pattern onto 1/8" thick basswood.
