Sconces, just plugging away!

Myangela

Engineering the lighting for this room has been a challenge. Pendants would be perfect, but no ceiling to suspend them from, believe me, I worked that issue over and over, and over again! So, pendant-like sconces! Made these from infant nasal exasperater refill tips, no lie. They are made of silicon, so very, like extremely, heat resistant. Little frosted glass shades is what I saw, a package of four sells for $2.99 at Babies-R-Us! I added a 16 volt grain of wheat bulb, coupled with two large gold painted beads, a bronze decorative bead crown, about a half inch of brass tubing, (that I slightly and ever so gently bowed ), a gold metal jewelry post thing that looks like a long skinny nail, and the "plates" are button backings that appeared when I popped out their pearl-like button facings to reveal. Each sconce is mounted to the wall with the help of a large hollow brass eyelet (Cir-Kit Concepts, Inc., CK1023-2). It took me all morning to figure this out! I. really needed the wires to come down the front side if this wall in order to connect to the tape wire the under the bathroom floor. So, I had to figure out how to mount a sconce without taking the wire through the wall. Finally figured it out. BTW, This funny shaped half wall has to be pre-wired and pre-wallpapered (both sides) before it can be secured. This wall, and the wall opposite of it in the bathroom, both have to be secured before I can finish out the roof.

Unfortunately, did manage to screw up my wallpaper, had just enough left over from the kitchen to do the walls in this room. But, since I have to replace it, it will give me the opportunity to check out something new.

I did make it. I like making furniture, especially since it is so difficult to find what I want to use. I googled antique buffets and looked through the images to come up with my design. I did the same thing for the secretary in the master bedroom. I'm really pleased with how well it turned out. The fleur de lis for the doors were the most challenging, the doors couldn't be plain, but they were too small for any molding. I still can't believe I came up with them! I hand cut them out of veneer, each is made up of three pieces, stained and assembled when I glued them to the doors. I know, I'm crazy :)

Well, thank you, Debora, you've done some really fabulous work, yourself! I love watching your progress on the Bond house, and enjoy your prose. You brought a whole new meaning to stuffed shirts!
