holes holes everywhere, their in my house, their..
January 23rd 2007. Yay! Today Andrew used his new Dremel and cut me some holes! That is two whole houses that I needed stuff done on!
The first, the Harrison: since I turned the staircases around I needed new holes cut....(oops I just barely in this moment realized we need to do the 3rd floor as well  ) oooppps...maybe i'll wait another day for that one. ....anyway, we cut the hole longer and i cut out a little filler piece to fill in the gap a little towards the back of the house. The staircase will cover that anyway, but i just thought from the underside, it would look better. once i get the staircase dry fitted i'll see if i need to put a filler piece in the area that we just cut (towards the front of the house). I'm thinking about putting in a closet under the staircase in this bedroom section and maybe even on the first floor....like closing in the wall but just having a framed in door....or in the case of the bedroom, using a bit of cloth to have a curtain closing off the doorway. I took a picture of the whole back of the house, minus the cats this time
For the Bellingham, I didn't like how long and narrow the living room and master bedroom were. Neither were practical for furniture set up so I decided I wanted to completely do away with the hallway on the main level, this would really open up the room...and i'm going to put in a staircase with a landing. For the second floor, I didn't care for the big open room with a door right there to the outside. This room doesn't really make sense to me so I just got rid of it altogether and just have a new narrow hallway, so there is a door to the balcony at the top of the stairs, and now the master bedroom has better space! I wanted a fireplace in this room and didn't like the bed right up against the windows. So I'll have the fireplace on the right wall and the bed will fit in the new space that i just created on the left wall.
The wall dividers were too short and didn't really give the feeling of a doorway, so we cut an extension piece for one divider, then 3 headers for the 3 doorways in the house. Feels more realistic to me. I thought about cutting another opening for stairs on the 3rd floor, but the space is so tight, it's not worth the bother to me...i'll live without the staircase to the 3rd floor. So here are some piccies to show our progress...doesn't look like much, but it makes a world of difference! Oh, the yellow on the house needs 2 more coats of paint.
