KathieB
The show is scheduled for May 18 & 19, 2012. I attended the show in 2011 and was pleased to see the variety and quality of dealers. I know it takes a few years to generate the momentum to keep a show moving. I hope this one can survive. Below is the message sent out this morning. I hope dealers in the forum will check it out. If you're interested in attending as a customer or dealer, please let Thelma know asap. Dear Friends, Several letters have been sent asking dealers if they plan to participate in the second New Orleans Show, May 18 & 19, 2012. Some have given a verbal (yes), some have sent in contracts and some have not replied at all. We are at a point where I need to decide to CANCEL the 2012 NOLA show for lack of interest and funds. The show is not possible without dealers and customers. The show is also not possible with me having to put in personal monies to fulfill (hotel contractual) agreements. The IMA/(I) signed off on an agreement with the hotel for an estimated/anticipated revenue that they would receive from the IMA event (ballroom, sleeping rooms and food). If these numbers are not met, I am personally responsible for the difference. Due to the slow or nonexistent responses from dealers the show will be cancelled by September 15th. (Firm) committments need to be received by September 12th. That gives us a month to determine if we are moving forward with the show. I can cut my losses at about $3000.00 by September 15th, an upfront cancellation fee. I had hoped to wait until December, but I would then owe Hilton hotel almost $6,000.00 for simply holding the space(s). CANCELLATION is SEPTEMBER 15th! This out-of-pocket money could buy a lot of minis. ;-) If you know any dealers personally that could be encouraged to do the NOLA 2012 show that would be helpful. If we are able to pull it off for 2012, your help with getting the word out to customers to improve overall attendance would be greatly appreciated. THANK YOU for supporting the "new" NOLA show held in 2011 and offering help for 2012. I still believe that this show is a viable idea and will take a couple of years to build.
