Marble or tile. You could do a faux granite which might be easy to do with paint and varnish. It looks great. Wife is right!

Looking at it I'm not sure if I should paint it the same colors as the rooms or white trim and the dark green in the center section . The kitchen area wont be hard yellow and white. What do you think?

Really looks great! My eye would prefer white trim with the dark green in the panel.

Maybe a white marble for the counter top.
