Mini Man

Attached are my three pictures for my entry into the SF 2011 Contest.

I created the "Cottage Rose Bed & Breakfast," inspired by the "Dragonfly Inn" as seen on the TV show "Gilmore Girls." I just loved watching the show and seeing the eclectic mix of furniture, materials, and patterns the set designers combined in different rooms. Pictures of roses or rose floral arrangements appear in all rooms, and the style is what I would term "cottage chic," which inspired the name "Cottage Rose."

I chose to showcase the wood engraving under the windows by staining them a dark walnut and contrasting that with a lighter tan stucco. I extended out the house using "The Incredible Kit" by Carlson's I purchased on eBay. The roofs of the additions and dormer windows are covered in real copper sheeting.

The kitchen floor was already assembled on a piece of backing, but the lobby and dining room floors were hand-pieced by me using Brodnax kits. Some furniture was purchased ready-made, and some pieces are made from House of Miniatures kits that I collect.

I set the back of the house flush with the back of the platform to reinforce the idea that this is only part of the building and more rooms extend beyond along with the illusory 4th wall.

Several copies of the "Chicago Tribune" have recently been delivered, and breakfast has been set out for the current guest, whose luggage can be seen in the upstairs bedroom. Guests can relax, read, and play games in the upstairs living room, or relax in their room using the complementary robe and pair of slippers.

This is the first house that I built, furnished, and finished myself and I am very proud of it. Thank you Greenleaf for such an inspiring design!

A lovely interpretation of the origina kit! You've thought of everything for the little person who wants to get away for a weekend.

Thanks everyone! I still can't believe I finished it on time, or finished it at all, for that matter! Off to look at all of the other entries now - how fun is this?! Can't wait till next year!
