Thank you all for a superb kit! This is my first build and first contest and it was a blast! Here is the back story for the Orange Blossom:
Welcome to the Orange Blossom Citrus Company! This is a turn of the century pioneer building from the days of old Florida. You’ve caught us at low tide, but at high tide boats pull right up to our double doors, load the crates of oranges or other citrus and travel the Gulf of Mexico to bring the product to market. Come up the ramp on the side of the building with your canvas bags of fresh picked oranges, but watch out for the ladder and pail of paint…the sea air and sun weathers buildings quickly here. Hope you like the railings; we built them ourselves. Just about everything is scratch built here.
Stop at the copper wash table and pump the water to clean the oranges. Don’t forget to put a pail under the drain at the lower end to catch the run off. Now it’s time to sort the oranges by size at the orange sorter in the center of the room. Just roll them down and watch them fall through the increasingly large center hole to the waiting crates below.
Now that your oranges are sorted by size for easy shipment, it’s time to get packing! Assemble the crates and don’t forget the labels in their box so that the city folks know these are genuine Florida oranges.
All the while, the boss keeps an eye on things through the open top of the Dutch door. He’s usually high and dry in his office space or watching for boats on the deck. Even though the boss grumbles about it, his wife added special touches such as the painted floor. There's even a cot with a mattress for the busy season when boss sleeps down here to be close to the boats and keep an eye on the workers.
There are always fresh oranges on hand of course, but a fruit assortment and a little music is pretty nice on a hot and humid Florida day. The chalkboard says there’s a shipment going out to Siesta Key tomorrow. Time to grab a canvas bag and head back to the orchard!
