Jo Med 1,017 Posted August 12, 2009 Deb this is looking truly magnificent. Its a real labour of love and the care and attention that is going into this build is very evident. What kind of clay are you using for the roof, is it paperclay. I hear so much about that on here but I have never seen it in shops in this country. What have you used to texture it?Jo Quote Link to comment
Deb G 14 Posted August 13, 2009 Thank you! Yes, it's Paperclay, and I texture it with a tool that came in my Hobby Lobby clay tool set, really just a wood handle with a sort of tiny spatula on one end and a sharp nail on the other. I use the long side of the spatula to make the vertical lines, going over and over each one. That's what is taking so long. I make a deeper line to mark the "sides" of each shingle. The sharp point is for defining the bottom of the "side" lines, and I use the barrel of the pointed end for smoothing the "side" lines. I'm going to take some photos when I get to the back because it will be easier to photograph each step for a tutorial I plan to put in my blog. Quote Link to comment
