Dad's Box: Birthday Balloons

welcomehomeminis

I love these cheap plastic balloons. They were in much cheerier colors when we bought them, but with some markers I use for graphics work they were easily custom-colored for the Halloween theme, and we wrote Happy Birthday with a Sharpie to finish them off. A quick project that adds nice detail.

Oh, thank you. I got the balloons at Fingertip Fantasies in Aston, PA. They have an annual "garage sale," and I got them at last year's. Unfortunately I just checked, the balloons aren't on their website, so that may have been the last of them. You could email them, though. They're pretty good about getting back to people, and if they can still get them for you, they will. They're really great people.

At Philadelphia Miniaturia yesterday, I saw two different manufacturers selling glass balloons. They both had great colors, but (a) the price was sky-high; (B) balloons are not as shiny as real glass; and © both companies were basically selling small glass balls with threads hanging down, which didn't look right because they didn't have that little spot at the bottom where you tie the balloon off! So for me, these thin, cheap plastic balloons are still the right thing. The wire acting as string is a bit out of scale, but that was a help in trying to hang them (gave them a bit more stability), so I put up with that flaw.
