My Victorian Bride: Best of Show at Costume Con 23

Lynette Smith

This is one of my most challenging doll creations. She was first published in Barbie Bazaar for their 1st Barbie Bazaar Makeover Artists Award. This is her as she appeared at Costume Con 23's doll contest. I was shocked when I won Best of Show.

She is wearing a gown inspired by Lady Tenetertons wedding gown, metamorphosed into a gown worn by the mother in 1880 and altered for her daughter in 1900. She has a petticoat with detachable, adjustable bustle, over thich the skirt is covered with row upon row of ruffled lace. The apron is embellished with silk ribbon embroidered roses. The bodice is fitted and lined, with large puffed sleeves so beloved of the Gibson Girl era, and delicate lace around the elbows and collar. The skirt is lavishly beaded with a design I adapted from a 100+ year old veil in my collection. Her headpiece is of individual flowers sewn to a teardrop cap and trimmed with English net.
