Exterior stonework

I bought some artist medium which thickened acrylic paint when added.  So, I marked out the stonework with thin pin-striping tape and then glooped on the paint mix.  Once all on I went over with a sponge.  Not sure whether to go over it again or leave it with one coat??  Plus, do I do this same stonework on the sides of the building?
