Wheels done
Success! I have finished the wheels. I'm not sure how many coats of paint they've had, nor how many hours I've worked on them. Suffice it to say they've been an ongoing project for many days. I had intended on doing a simple single line around the wheel in teal but decided it was too hard to get right. Then I searched Gypsy and Celtic symbols etc and practised them on paper with the paint brush. I finally decided on this Moon Glyph which means 'balance'. I figured that was a good thing for wheels!! I also chose to do a few dragonflies on odd spokes. After letting it all dry I picked up a wheel to show someone and the gold dots on the Glyph smudged! Horror!! I repainted it and then popped the wheels into the oven to dry as our humidity has been over the top. This morning the gold was still smudging! I had used a different gold pen for the hub of the wheel. So I ended up putting a dot of the different gold pen over the other which sealed it fortunately! Then I used gloss Mod Podge to seal the whole wheel, before attaching the 'steel' which is actually a grey/silver tape. I am very pleased with how they've turned out!
