Merrimack Study 3.jpg

Debsrand56

The study/den as currently configured.  I haven’t glued the walls or floor down yet or finished the doors.  I had wanted to find a mod wallpaper for the walls, but nothing was grabbing me, so I finally went with a light yellowish green scrapbook paper, and I think I’ll stick with it.  The floor is cork scrapbooking paper.  I may change it to cork tiles, as I have plenty of cork paper left.  It would be more work, but would probably look more realistic.  Although it’s difficult to see in this picture, the two framed prints over the settee are mid-century travel posters for San Francisco and New York.

I love this room! I think it is my favourite in the house so far. (big statement but true. :) )

All the details are so great. I love the corner desk and you've dressed it perfectly right down to the paper in the typewriter! The teeny tiny ship is a favourite too.. Not quite sure how small your paint brush needed to be to paint that ... or did you tape off and spray? The instrument prints are awesome, great touch.

I had a cork tile floor in my kitchen years ago and it was the best flooring ever. Soft on your feet, hard wearing.. warmer than tile.. not the prettiest floor but so practical... But I digress.. I agree the tile would be more in-keeping, but they are layed butted right up to each other so would that be lost in this tiny scale making more work for not much pay off? Maybe you could just score it a little to simulate tile?

Thank you!  I use these teeny little brushes that are used for painting fingernails.  I get them from the Japanese dollar store. I'd be completely lost without them.

Very good point.  I will have to think about that.  I like the idea of scoring.  I will test a bit of the extra paper.

I was thinking about the cork some more.. and what about making indentations with an awl or an empty ballpoint or something similar. It might work better on paper as scoring might make it rip.

Or maybe my bone folder?  I will experiment with different options.

Was the cork floor you had polished?  I was looking at pictures online, and some of them are shiny!  My brother had a cork floor in his bedroom in the first house we lived in, and I don't remember it being shiny.  Then again, we moved out of it when I was 5, so there's probably a lot about that house I don't remember.

:D Yes, it was varnished but it wasn't overly shiny.. I think it was a satin finish. It has to be sealed because it's porous otherwise. Beware, it does change the colour quite dramatically, to a darker/richer shade.. like honey.

I have to ask... What is a bone folder???:hmm:

Not sure why it's called that.  It's a tool used for pressing a line or groove into cardstock, to make it easier to fold cleanly.

Ooohh.. I need one of these! It would help immensely with wallpapering. Sounds like it would be good for getting straight tile lines too. :D
