Whitney Plantation Owner's Desk

Most of the furnishings at the Whitney Plantation are not original. The owner, a New Orleans attorney named Cummings, has purchased and continues to purchase antiques appropriate to the time and place.

I was struck by the graceful lines of what was a rather large piece of furniture. This was in the small business office on the ground floor of the main house. The woman is Lloyd's cousin Gloria, who was trying to convince Lloyd that the desk would fit in the back of our car.

(Note the brick floor. The entire ground floor was made of brick -- floor and walls. The walls were plastered, inside and out. The upper floor and attic were made of termite resistant cedar.)
