Maybe once you have wall and accessory décor like a mirror or shelf, or a coat tree or wall hooks etc. it might take it down a notch or two. Will you be doing anything for window coverings or trims? That might also bring the calming effect you are seeking.

I wasn't planning on window coverings, as this will be a "for sale" house.... I was going to make a little shelf by the door and hang a little red cloak from it.... once there is more furniture and crown and baseboards it may be better....

(I may paper over the front wall with the paper in the bay window)
