Myangela 1,106 Posted June 14, 2014 Thank you, Debora. My first dollhouse, but, not my first miniature. Hoping this little house inspires my great niece to do whatever she likes. Quote Link to comment
Cheverly 658 Posted June 18, 2014 This is so beautiful! I love the way you stained the door and have the white trim around it. Think I'll do that on my house too. And the wainscoting is gorgeous. Quote Link to comment
Myangela 1,106 Posted June 19, 2014 Cheverly, thank you so much, but I must admit , that was not what I had originally planned. I had stained the interior molding, too. However, when I proceeded to install such interior molding, it was not the right size, it was too short! I had stained the wrong molding! I get a lot of ideas from a website, houzz.com. They have not only been an inspiration, they have been a tremendous resource for me. It is an interior design website, free, and extremely informative (i.e. I can look up the real life dimensions of just about anything, but I can also look up "stair landing railing", "white wainscoting", "slate tiled porch", "wood flooring with white kitchen cabinets," the list goes on!) I did make the wainscoting, using a small molding base board molding, partially because of cost, but mainly because molding in homes are custom made to fit the walls. (I like the wainscoting, too! . Thanks for noticing! ). When I initially took on this project, I'd never worked on dollhouses, I had to do some research to even get started on the re-furnishing. I happened upon greenleafdollhouses.com during my search to find out anything about the partially finished house that had just arrived for me to work on. Then I saw what some members of this community were creating, not the Victorian replicas as had I had assumed I'd be working on, some were creating modern spaces! Don't get me wrong, I love Victorian, one of my favorite eras. But, this revelation was so much more exciting to me. I've got carte Blanche, this dollhouse is for my great niece who starts junior high this next fall, this dollhouse is a surprise Christmas gift, so, do I go Victorian? Or, try to capture the times we're living in now, a time capsule of where interior design is now, when she's coming of age? We hate to tear down old homes, instead we refurbish, remodel, modernize. VM600, welcome to The Heights, of Houston! Ok, that said, sincerely, so glad you like my project. Quote Link to comment
Cheverly 658 Posted June 20, 2014 I think I saw you mention houzz.com in another comment before. I'm going to have to check it out this weekend! I know what you mean about deciding whether to go modern/Victorian because I'm going back and forth with my VM800 too. I have a ways to go before I have to make the final decision, but I can see myself getting hung up in the process. Your great niece is giong to LOVE this house, and I can't believe it's your first project! Seeing what you can do is giving me inspiration and hope that mine will turn out too. Quote Link to comment
Myangela 1,106 Posted June 21, 2014 One other thing about the houzz.com website that really has lent itself well to my project is I have been able to save my inspirations into separate notebooks! I have a "kitchen" notebook, a "dining room" notebook, etc., so I have those pictures right there for fast and easy reference. I honestly don't know how I would have been able to keep those images organized in my mind, but I really didn't have to! It has been a tremendous resource for me. Whatever era you decide to capture, I hope you enjoy this journey! And, thank you so much for responding to my posts. I look forward to following your project, too! Quote Link to comment
Cheverly 658 Posted June 25, 2014 Thanks to you, I am now "officially" addicted to houzz.com. Man, soo many great ideas out there, I don't even know where to begin! One room at a time, though, one room at a time. ;) 1 Quote Link to comment
