Fire places and panelling
I have been really busy! I pulled all the walls down and have decided to put on panelling. It had been nagging at me and I know I would have been disappointed should I not have done it. I also decided - since it was that wall that I started on, to do both fireplaces. I had a plastic picture frame that my daughter had broken the glass of. I had put it aside as I had said it would make an awesome fireplace. So the other day I got it out, pushed out the wooden pieces and got to work. I cut the frame down to the right size with the right decoration. I then glued it to the wooden front. After a bit of mucking about it had it sitting perfectly. I then used spackle to fill in the sides. Sanding, painting and a heap of mucking about and it's basically done. I had bought a glowing fire box but I feel it's way too small. So I'll get another bigger. I also have to make the backing which will basically just be black. Otherwise I am really pleased with it! The marbling was difficult but I am really happy with how it turned out. For the bedroom fireplace I did it a simple white to go with the bedroom theme. Given that my lady is an artist I did a bit of art on it in the form of scrapbooking rub ons.
The panelling is also going really well - I have figured (thanks to my engineering hubby) how to cut the coving and skirting to go around/into corners etc.
Plus I have finished all the floors for the second floor. Black and white tiles for bathroom and wooden for the rest. I've decided that instead of a second bedroom, I'm going to turn the other room on the second floor into a study for Norm. It will be the classic study - dark, bookcases lining the wall......big heavy desk. I'll do a kids room in the attic along with Val's art/craft room.
I am so enjoying this! Hubby yesterday praised me and said I seem to be doing a 'half decent job'! He is also pleased that I have this hobby - I suggested he make one to show me how a full decent job would look!
