Finally some progress on the Beacon Hill!

February 18th. Well, my poor neglected Beacon Hill...I have been wanting to get to this house! I cleared up my mess and dusted her off....knocked off the cobwebs and dug in yesterday! I spent most of the day working on this house. I kinda took my time, so i wish i'd accomplished more, but i'm pretty happy with what i did accomplish!

The foundation is completed finally! I had to make new foundation pieces for the bashed extension, and i beefed up the existing foundation a little. seems pretty sturdy. I still have work to do around the porch foundation, but that will be cosmetic.

I began work on the front porch! So far things have gone well with that! I got all the posts glued together and today i'll throw a little spackle on them to give them a more finished look. I took a bunch of pictures last night, of course the front porch isn't finished in these pictures, i still have to work on the whole porch roof support system. (this is missing at the time i took the photos, so the porch looks a little bare). Shouldn't be to much of a bash tho. I don't think i'll do that today, i really need to get the posts spackled and after its dry, sand them down and give them a coat or two of paint. I may do that on thursday, but more likely it will be next sunday.

I tried out the victorian railing (laser) on the roof patio. It really didn't look right. More like a fence really. So i went back to the original idea of the plastic railing instead. It will give me the look that i want! I used what I had on had (it's black, but will be painted a light color), i took photos with it in place so that i could have the photos to keep referring back to. I also tried setting it up around the whole porch roof and kitchen roof patio and this look alot better than just having it on the kitchen roof patio. so i've worked out how that will go!

I really need to get my foundation textured and finished before i can start siding. It's getting closer tho!

Well, I guess I won't upload anymore photos today. I had a few more i wanted to add but either this website is slow or it's my computer with this website...either way, it's taking a really long time just to add anything to this blog and my patience isn't up to doing anymore today!

It's looking good, Marg. I intend to put some kind of railing round the flat rooves on my BH, so seeing your progress is really interesting.

The railing marries the kitchen extension to the house, beautifully.

Thanks for the blog

Hi Marg, I love what you're doing with the BH, I do intend to get there myself. I'm working on my first house right now "ye Ole Cottage" My mother-in-law has had it in the closet for 20 years and its a bit rough. My question for you is: Where did you get the haunted village?

Hi John, thank you!

We got alot of the pieces at Michael's last fall but the majority was thru House of Tam (internet store and they have a store on ebay) and various sellers on ebay. We have Dept 56 but the majority of it is Lemax. The buildings look cool when you plug them in! I hope this year that we will build a display for them all, we'll see!

It's a neat hobby. I was surprised that there is a hobby of "Villaging" out there, but the items are collectable. It's an expensive hobby to get into tho so be prepared! I know we spent over 2000.00 dollars last fall just to get what we have and I found alot of discounts on those items! We were new to villaging then and it became an obsession! I haven't purchased any new pieces for months but there are still a few Dept 5 pieces i'd like to get.

Lemax has a bunch of new items coming out this year. I want to get most of the new pieces, they look cool! Someday i hope that we will have a large basement and I'd like to create a permanent display!

Have fun if you decide to get into it!

Do you have photos of the house you are working on?
