What's under the roof?

Juliana

Curiosity drove me to pop the red metal roof off. Underneath, I found more fruit crate labels! I found the original labels online and they confirm that the crates, if not the house itself, date to the 1940s. The house could have of course been built later, but it has a very 40s look to me.

Quite interesting to say the least. I love those old crates. When I was a kid we always had some around for storage that were left from our family grocery store.

Someone took some time and creativity re-purposing that/those crate(s). They did a nice job. Love the little house. Glad you gave it a home.

Selkie, when I was first married I had a bunch of wooden crates that we used for storing stuff, too. That was MANY years ago (lol). Would love to find some more since those went by the wayside long ago.

Its a neat little house, super sturdy too! But it feels a bit forlorn, with those big windows looking in on bare wood. I don't want it to be a train depot. I'm tempted to paint the inside cream, leaving the crate labels exposed to tell its history. Dress it up a little...red gingham curtains, little vase of daffodils and a kitty sitting in the front window. Just enough room inside for a little bed, a pot bellied stove, a table and a chair... Raise it up an inch and give it some front steps, maybe a simple portico over the door. Yes, its got a good home here. :)
