The Spring Fling house came with an addition that we instantly wanted to bash into a flat-roofed showpiece for the west end of Revolution Avenue's street of shops.<div><br></div><div>This high-end dressmaker's shop had been planned from the first—it was the first shop my daughter came up with a name for, as well. The name "Niall" means "cloud" in Gaelic, and she decided that the shop's owner would be Niall Fisher, an Irish designer transplanted to tiny Thorny Coast, Maine, and the shop would be named Niall 9.</div><div><br></div><div>(The street address is number 9 Revolution Avenue—Beatles fans, yes, take note—and the name is also a play on "Cloud 9," which my daughter hoped we'd all be on, after seeing this gem of a shop.)<div><div><br></div><div>With the garage next to it, we had already decided that the main Spring Fling building was too short, and added a faux basement. In this case, rather than add a basement again, we decided to add height in another way. We gave the building a "riser" (made, ironically, from a length of the cut-off base of the Fascination Station, which we had removed right at the start because it was too deep for the space it would eventually inhabit in our apartment), and made the windows on the front more dramatic by adding more lights lower i=on the structure, so instead of 6-light windows, they're now each tall, elegant 10-light windows. Befitting this <i>most</i> elegant shop...</div></div></div>
