Thanks Craig. I'd like to see some pix of your dollhouse in progress, also that matchbox city! When I was a kid I built a matchbox town on a an old ping pong table.

My furniture: I use clear pine boards - usually 1"x8"x4' [3/4"x7-1/4"x48"]. Altho the chimney cabinet was made with sugar pine boards I bought at a barn sale. I've used basswood from reclaimed blinds. I also use 1/16 hardwood veneers glued to poplar cross-banding. See Constantine's Wood Center. Its a great site filled with a wealth if info and a company that knows what there are doing.

My madness method:

1) cross cut the boards to approximately 24", yielding 2 pieces

2) cut into strips on the bandsaw as needed

3) sand with thickness sander to the size i need. I use digital calipers, 1/12 scale 1/2" thickness = 0.0416... the caliper would read 0.0415.

This process creates 3/4"x24" [by whatever thickness] stripwood (1/12 scale = 9"x24'). If I need wider than 3/4" I glue the strips edge to edge.

I can also cut the original board on the bandsaw up to a 2" wide strip then turn the strip 90 degrees and cut it again on the bandsaw into thin strips - yielding up to 2" (scale 24") wide mini boards.

Any further cutting is done on a mini table saw. I've made lots of jigs. I have one for the full size table saw to cut the dadoes in the mini furniture, its a sled with a hold-down so my fingers are nowhere near the blade.
