Items needed to make a basic bed

debra

You will need, some lengths of balsa or small timber for the side and end pieces, slats to hold the matress etc (I used some greenleaf siding cut to fit) some beads for the top and bottom of your bed posts, the bed posts are pre made wooden stair posts, you could use any round or square timber that will allow you to glue the beads to the ends, and not pictured (sorry) some wooden meat skewers and tooth picks for the top rails and the peices that go in between at the the top and the end of the bed. You can leave these plain or slide beads etc onto them like I have done.

Then just some wood glue and a ruler and sharp knife or saw to cut the wood. Most beds either double of single will be about the same length, it is only the width pieces you need to cut to your preffered size, my single bed is about 6 1/2 inches long by 3 1/2 inches wide, and is about 3/4 inch from the floor, you can make it any size you want, if you a particular room it needs to fit in, just cut your side and end pieces to fit, no one said a bed has to be any particular size lol.

This one I am actually going to glue some more beads to the bottom to make it a bit higher off the floor. Most old beds were very high from the floor. Remember granmas old feather bed, the one that you used to jump on and snuggle into when you were a kid.
