Libby 153 Posted January 3, 2009 Just awesome!!I have a question. Did you just cut the old stair railing off and add new spindles? I don't really like the stair railing that come with the greenleaf kits. I'm still a newby and trying to pick up tips from everyone.thanks,Kim Quote Link to comment
rlkinnison 2 Posted January 3, 2009 Hi Kim~ The stock railing was too chunky and bold for my taste, so I just sawed it off. I covered the stair treds with walnut flooring~ the houseworks kind that has the paper backing~ just cut it to fit and glued it on. I made the railing from houseworks spindles and rails, am using the same to make my porch railing actually too. I cut some off the spindles at the top, as you can see, so it fits flush with the ceiling when they are in place. I used hot glue to dry fit everything together, then when all was right, I took it apart (cause the hot glue doesnt stick to wood) and stained the pieces, then glued them together with wood glue. I varnished the railing before I attached it to the stairs. THANKYOU for commenting & good luck with your stairs! Quote Link to comment
