The parlor is simple. The ceiling looks dark in this shot, but it is really painted Paris green. (The bedroom ceiling also has beams, but they are unpainted and the ceiling between the beams is plastered.) The pillows on the sofa were made by Deb in a swap some time ago. The altar and picture of Our Lady of Prompt Succor are typical of a Creole residence. Our Lady is credited with saving many lives during horrendous hurricanes in New Orleans.

Near the door is Marie's carpet bag packed with medicines and her umbrella, ready for her next visit to the sick. Extra wraps are hanging on pegs on the wall. The multiple candles reflect both voodoo and Catholic practices.
