Merrimack Rec Room.jpg

Debsrand56

Here is my best re-creation of the room.  Obviously, I couldn’t really get the exact items (there is one item that is identical—can you spot it?), and the room is much smaller, but I think it has the feel of the room I remember. I want to add more along the back wall.  I’d definitely like a cuckoo clock in there, and I found a tutorial for miniature fishing floats.  I’d also like to put a fireplace where the TV is.  I have a resin brick fireplace (unpainted) that is designed so that the top can be cut down to exactly fit any room.  It is quite thin (shallow) so won’t take up a lot of space.  If I can cut it down properly, I’ll test it out and see what I think.  I was considering making a “glass” enclosure out of clear styrene for the stair opening. My brother suggested going with a trap door, and I really like that idea, as I hate the thought of blocking the fireplace or TV.  Am trying to come up with more “souvenirs” to add; they don’t have to be what my grandparents had, just things that suggest my homeowners are world travelers.  Ideas welcome.

Hmm.. I agree a trap door might be the best idea to deal with the stairs location.

That lamp is darling.. is that a Japanese lady? Adorable! Did you make it?

I remember we had a stuffed crocodile in our rec room when I was growing up.. just a small one in case your wondering.. lol

I think my Grandma had a souvenir spoon collection in a rack on a wall.. Maybe you could put a small shelf on the wall behind the bar. Postcards are an obvious one. My
Dad sent me a letter from China in 1975 that is on Chinese stationary. I have it framed with the envelope that is almost covered in Chinese stamps, it's on the wall in my office. It makes a nice souvenir, and I don't think it would be hard to recreate this look in mini.. all pictures could be found online.

The lamp and the Japanese lady are actually separate.  I just the angle I photographed it at.  The Japanese lady is a Peruvian ceramic bead.

I like the idea of postcards and a shelf behind the bar where I can put more things.  My mother has a souvenir spoon collection (including one darling spoon with little wooden shoes on the top), but that would be pretty hard to recreate in half scale.  :)
