I stained the stair treads and the railings & banister pieces and closet door trim (it's a fake closet, I liked the one in the Westville better because it was easily bashable into a "working" closet & this one won't go that way). I primed the staircase and painted it white. When it was dry I installed the closet door trim and the treads. I bagged up the various trims & the windows or doors that went with them.
