First Floor Stairs Close-up

Sanding the 100+ part stairs followed by two coats of stain and one coat of clear coat and then assembly took what seems like forever!

They look so lovely. Will you be able to remove them temporarily for the wall covering portion of the build? Sometimes it's hard to get grown up hands in there for painting or wallpapering.

Errrrrr . . I hadn't thought about that. At least the second flight was slightly askew and a bit of force while gluing it in place was my 'remedy' to the situation.

I guess its time to teach the little-handed-one how to do some precision painting!

There are super small paint applicators and paint brushes available when it comes time for that. I get mine at the local hobby store. Covering/painter's taping the heck out of them may help too.

Thankfully, I've already got a good collection of tiny paintbrushes, but I think finding the patience (including prep) is going to be more of a challenge. I started staining shingles yesterday (individually) and that was proving pretty challenging! ;)

Emily (FOV) has a technique where she dumps the shingles into a container of stain and pulls them out in handfuls, blots them, lays them out to dry, and works on the next handful. Faster technique, and has the added benefit of providing variation in color for the individual shingles for more interest (unless uniform is the look you're going for, which is fine too).

That sounds like a great technique! I would have pre-stained the shingles if I thought through what I wanted them to look like in advance. Patience and thinking have been in short supply on this project! ;0
