Desk for roombox.
I went to the craft stores today; found some interesting paper at Michael's (might make nice "linoleum"), and some cotton cord at Joann's that I want to try to use for cord trim on upholstery, and a sale on bead findings at Hobby Lobby:
I was on my way home when I remembered that I totally forgot the main reason to go, which was to take the roombox to Hobby Lobby to get a custom frame made for it! Oh well...
Last weekend I made a little desk for the roombox out of basswood (mostly 1/16", I think) and spindles for legs; I drew the sides out on paper first to work out the dimensions, then cut and stained all the pieces separately before gluing it together. Those curved pieces in front, I had to soak in warm water and leave them to dry wrapped around a cylinder shape (actually a Gatorade powder scoop!) so that they would keep their curves (I tried just bending thin basswood, and it was very thin at 1/32", but it kept snapping). I ended up clamping and taping them (carefully) for the glue to dry, but I still need to spot-glue them where it won't show so that they don't spring loose sometime in the future... (This roombox's destination is much more humid than it is here, so I worry about things loosening up!)
