Yesterday I mentioned that I painted the trim. I decided to go with the color "Black Cherry" by Delta. After that dried, I began to assemble my windows & shutters. As you can see, I added new window inserts.
I bought a book titled "Ready-to-Use Dollhouse Stained Glass Windows" by Ed Sibbett Jr. ( Here is the link to purchase http://store.doverpublications.com/0486237400.html )
I picked the ones I wanted to use for this house. After choosing them and scanning them i
Build an Arthur in two weeks? Ha, easy! Err, yeah.I am starting a few days later than everyone else because I had a busy week. My Arthur kit arrived on Tuesday but I wasn't able to start until today (Saturday). This will be the third die-cut house I have put together (I'm also redoing one I bought already assembled). I have put the others together at my boyfriend's hangar, where he's building an airplane, because there's a lot of space and all his tools are there. But because of the deadlin
well today was slow goingeverything has recieved all the coats of whatever they needed if it needs more the new owners will have to do it.I had a couple of problem areas...the front of my house doesnt meet up as flush as what I been seeing....me thinks builder should have saw this before going to bed and letting glue dry. but I think the porch will cover it and no one will know.I really like the double wall and closet area.my other problem area I see is for the dormer...in the dry fit it didnt m
This AM I finished priming and began some of the painting. I finished the downstairs floor with painting the front porch floor white and putting "linoleum" in the kitchen. I stained the stair treads and painted the stringers, and as soon as the latter are dry I'll begin stair assembly. I began cutting out the slots and I'll need to repaint the first floor ceiling, not sure if I want to put a ceiling medallion in the livingroom. I'll look at it hard during the dry-fit, which I can do after th
Building the Arthur - Day Five 04-22-05I polled several people on what color they thought this house should be, and most said the same color--yellow! So, I began painting the house yellow. However, I felt the house needed a little something extra, like siding, so as I was leaving work Friday I looked over and got a little boost in my inspiration for the Arthur, and so I took pictures of the house that I decided to model it after. Here they are.So, while awaiting the siding to arrive, Jimmy added
All right, I now have painted the siding. It took me 2 coats of paint. I painted it Cape Cod blue. The paint is by Delta. I am thinking about painting the trim either all white or burgundy with cream accents. I am VERY pleased at how things are turning out. It took me another 45 minutes to paint the exterior and it is still cold and raining outside so there is nothing better to do on a rainy day but play dollhouses. My girls are both repainting there house with me on the counter (Yeap, I had to
Today I finally caught up because it was cold and rainy outside! I got much accomplished. First of all, I added the outdoor chimney and stack. I cut these parts from 1/2" thick foam core. I did not use a pattern, I guess I eyeballed it a bit. I will cover it and the foundation with paper clay later. I glued it to the outside and I added the stack to the top of the roof.I added the Corona siding to the house. This is individual siding strips and I only used 1 1/2 bags because I have the Chimney.
last night I got my stairs together with very pleasing results.aside from my Willowcrest stairs I like the way these turned out.this may just help me in another house Im doing as the stairs there are just to big for my liking!so far today all I have done is give the floors another staining and a layer of plain polyurethane. and painted all the roof peices in preperation for putting the roof on.also have spackled again....now I am waiting for the stuff to dry....with all the storms and the fact t
today I sanded the slots and the shell and painted.the outside has been painted 1 time with spray primer and 2 coats of blue so far.Im always adding paint while working on the house.lol...ok here is whyI'll see this tiny imperfection, just the tinyest little paint so I get a little brush and I paint it and just when I can say looks good I dab the brush on a wall or peice that is another color ;) yup I told you...I am my own worst enemy. but in the end its all good. ;) well... there is tha
I actually did most of my work late last night while everyone was asleep. I added outlets in the bedroom and I made a nonworking ceiling light a working one with replaceable bulbs. I finished adding the roof and started putting siding on the frount wall. I will add the porch today after I paint the front first. I will post more later. I spent a total of 2 hours last night on the house. I painted the bathroom added the roof and siding outside.Complements of My Mini Shop
ok I went and took a breakand came back to it.house is glued first round of filler in the slots.rest of inside walls painted....I have decided to use the extra wall and "kitbash"(modify the kit) I am making the 2 walls removeable so the new owners can do what they like.I also have decided to trim the house out(baseboards and crown molding)but I also will make it removeable for the ease of wallpaperPhoto #1 is the front and the door....the inside panels will be light blue.Photo #2--view one foll
Jimmy has gotten the base shell all together and has sanded the wood putty for a smooth edge. Now it is my turn to work on the Arthur again. I begin by "priming" the outside and inside of the house. What I actually do is give the outside one coat of white semi-gloss paint. If you noticed in the day before, the upper half of the house was a different color wood than the bottom half of the house, so I give it one coat of white semi-gloss paint so that the actual color of the house will go on evenl
let me just say that alot of things in building houses that cause me frustrations are usually my own doing like I am my own worse enemy.....like painting the door when I had wanted to stain it ;) bad news for me...I spent an 2 hours painting the inner walls and gluing the house together. the tab and slots are not cooperating with me. my exacto knife getting a workout. than I got out the roof parts! hahah they are even worse and there is no paint on them. not all kits are like this...but it d
Building the Arthur-Day Three
Nothing much exciting happened today. Jimmy wood puttied the walls to give a smooth edge for painting. Jimmy said that after he puts the wood putty in the walls, he dips his finger in water and then rubs it on the wood putty to smooth it down better. Here are pictures.

Now because I do not want wire bumps showing through my carpet, I had to create a channel in the floor. Now I would not have had to do it this way if I had Floor boards but hobby lobby is out and I need to go on and finish the inside of my house LOL. I used my dremel tool to do this. Be Very careful!! Don't go in too deep! After that, I added the wire to be sure it fit. Once it did. I taped it down with masking tape and added my carpet. As you can see the wire won't show through!! Now be sure
I bought some lights to add to the rooms and because I am using a power strip, I think this will make it much easier for those afraid to electrify because they thing it is too complicated or that it will take up too much time. So far, I have spent a total of 2 hours and 43 minutes on this house (Partial assembly, Painting & Wallpapering and staining the floors). The next step of adding the lights took another 37 minutes (I have a stop watch ).The first pictue shows the plug of the light. B
I will electrify this house too and will start by showing how I added the light bulb to my fireplace. I edit my houses as I go along and this blog will show you the method of my madness LOL .First, I drilled a hole in the floor with my little hand drill (power tools bite. With the hand drill I have more control ;) ).I also used my hand drill to put a hole in the fireplace itself and then I fed the wire from the light bulb in the hole and through the floor to make certain that it is the correct
as in pre fabulous...lolI realise Im suppose to keep track of my time spent.taking stock of kit took about 20 minsI made sure all parts were thereI put them in the order I will use them...mostlyand returned them to the box.the dry run to get the feel of the house took about an hour due to the slot and tab issues.sanding and spray primering the main walls almost 3 hours.one side has to dry before spraying the 2nd side. thank goodness for perfect weather. being the insomniac I am I was up at 2am.
You may notice that my door frame is square . It is because I decided to upgrade and add a door that open and closes . This is how I did it.
I layed the door flat on the front wall where the doorway is.
I traced the door on the front wall piece so that I would know where to cut.
I then took my Handy Dandy hobby knife and scored the area 8 times till I felt the blade going to the other side. I popped out the wood parts I did not need and no Power tools were re
First of all, I had to open up the tabs because they were a bit too small for the slots to fit through ;) . I did this by use of my hobby knief so the problem was not hard to fix. I decided to add hardwood floors on the first level and bought a nice sheet of this flooring at hobby lobby for $4.99 not on sale. It has a paper back and is unfinished so that I can stain it the color of my choice. I glued it down with tacky glued and let it dry as I started assembling the back foundation wall and
Building the ArthurI have the floors polyeurethaned. This time I used a spray polyurethane, and I am not sure that I like it. Doesn’t seem to go on as well as when I use the other which comes in a can and I would then apply it using a foam brush. Here’s a picture of the floors. Now it’s Jimmy’s turn, and he begins by building the base of the house by gluing the base supports together. Jimmy likes to use Elmer’s ProBond Interior/Exterior Wood Glue to build with, and he uses a combination of clamp
With over an hour until craft stores open, I'm obsessing. About what? Brick. My plan includes a brick foundation, which means I need to simulate a brick finish over the plywood.Browsing for inspiration found a comprehensive, if labor-intensive, discussion of simulating brick walls. I probably don't have the patience to go this route myself, but it's interesting. I'll be looking for quick and easy alternatives on my craft store run.Complements of calamari
The Arthur is finally here! It came on Friday, but FedEx delivered up the street, so the lady it was delivered to brought it down to our house on Saturday. I was out of town until late Sunday evening, so we are beginning today, April 18, 2005. This is the front of the box, a little worse for wear I think …The first thing that we do is that Jimmy breaks out the boards for the main shell, meaning the sidewalls, front walls, back walls if any, interior walls, floor boards, and any base support boar
well I took the plunge and went through the kit. I have all my piecesand I have put them in order in the box.and gathered all my supplies....plz add a pair of saftey glasses to the list...dollhouse dust in the eyes can coz infection(how do I know that? )first problem: my slots to small for the tabs.....trusty ole exacto knife fixed the problem. I have the walls and front primered and I am ready to stain and seal the floors with minwax cherry/polyurethanethe porch will be painted white just lik
My name is nuttiwebgal and folks round here call me nutti(with good reason) ;) this is not the first house I have built but I am still green enough to be considered a "newbie"so I will approach this as simply as I can to show how easy it is to build a house. I have always wanted a dollhouse and asked my DH and both DS and nothing.so one day I came across a website where a woman had built her own house....hmmmmm why didnt I think of that? so I ordered me a kit and built it myself.....I will adm
