Here is an overview of the scene which is mounted on a heart shaped board. Although the inner hedge in picture # 2 appears as green as the outside, that is a trick of the camera. Not only is it covered in a coarser material to suggest branches rather than foliage, but it was also painted over with a wash of black paint to darken it to nearly black. The inner yard is barren of living vegetation, and has just skeletal trees and a sandy path winding up to the house. The rear of the scene is made with printed picture of a spooky-looking mansion and stormy skies.
