This is Joane's Beach House named "Sea Breeze." I loved the design of the house and when I though of creating a beach house, the idea of the porthole windows came to mind. This is the first time I've tried any landscaping and it was fun figuring out how to create the sandy beach.

I used one side of the first floor for the sofa, coffee table with game board and a soda, a hutch for books and games, and a large chest with a model ship atop. The other side of the first floor, deliniated by a white tile floor, is utilized for the stove and hutch for dishes. The house seemed incomplete without an eating area. That's when I thought of having the eating area outside on a comfortable deck so that the occupants can eat their meals on a table and chairs overlooking the ocean. The owners of the beach house have a lobster dinner awaiting them on the table along with a bottle of white wine and wine glasses.

The shingles on the front of the house were "silvered" by a nine-step process which I have been waiting to try for many years and was featured in an article written by Pat Thomas following one of their Castine, Maine workshops.

The special features of this house include the porthole windows, the weathered shingles and deck (which of course shows the nailheads), and the bluestone inside livingroom wall, as well as all of the beach paraphanalia including a boat with oars which is stored safely under the overhang. Finally, the beach house is the favorite perch of the seagulls who are sitting comfortably on the roof while waiting for a tasty meal to appear on the beach or in the ocean.
