Trouble with stucco

I mixed the stucco with paint, and I couldn't get the same texture as when I'd mixed it with water for the ceilings . Guess I should have followed directions and used latex instead of acrylic paint...anyhow, the thick mixture allowed me to create a look similar to stucco by dabbing at it with my brush while it dried.
