Facts about the wallpaper All the wallpapers for the Palace of Westminster were designed by Pugin, in an amazingly short period of five years. After Pugin's death in 1852 his designs continued to be used right up to the present day. They were revolutionary for his day, being at once inventive and plausibly Gothic.

Our lunch went well, I was again amazed by the the decor of the dining hall, even the ceilings held my attention, with carved and gilded sections and painted designs and yet more wonderful chandeliers. I must have looked a right fool ! Gazing about in open mouthed wonder with a huge grin on my face all day. The lunch was lovely, myself and Joan had a tiger prawn, pea and mint risotto (I was still full up from breakfast) and the boys had a lamb dinner, which looked very nice, and Gillian had vegetarian, I was impressed with the menu as they cater for ceoliacs. I also managed to get a pudding down too !!! Blackberry and apple pie, with cream, the pastry was melt in the mouth We all had a great chat with Gillian for and hour or so, she told us all about what she does and the boys discussed a bit of politics
