Pet Shop Vignette
Tonight's workshop was amazing. Eighty-some people each assembled a shop from precut wood pieces provided by the instructors, Luci & d*** Hanson. We got the structure together but did not put the trim on as it will be much easier to paint the trim first. [Hmmmm ... the censorship software doesn't seem to like Richard's nickname!!]
The back comes off so you can work inside. The brown paper is protecting the plastic windows, but single strength window glass can be used instead. It fits in a groove, so is easily replacable.
Written instruction was provided as well as slides of each step. There were numerous helpers moving among the participants with samples and insight, so the building actually moved rather smoothly.
Each of us was issued a ticket with our packets to be used for drawings throughout the evening. I won the very last drawing! It was a kit for shelves for the back of the shop. Too perfect!
I was really impressed with the quality of the kit. The pieces were cut and sanded with such precison that I swear we could have put them together dry and they would have held together. Well, maybe not quite, but we sure didn't need to sand anything, and the surfaces are ready for priming.
I was planning to turn this into a pet grooming parlor instead of a pet shop, but I'm not sure the grooming table will fit. With the removable back, it's not really bashable to make it deeper, but we'll see. It could be anything, really. Luci Hanson is going to make one into a dollhouse/miniatures shop.
I've met a ton of nice people, many of them from Minnesota. Their mini guild chartered a bus and others drove.
Tomorrow's workshop: a wicker rocking chair with Marilyn Crockett.
