4/18/06, finishing the kit (EVERYTHING!!!)
Today I assembled the Chrysnbon bathroom kit. OF COURSE the water closet is too tall so I had to shorten it somewhat (<1") but that sucker is in place to stay! The tub tucked nicely against the wall and the lavatory basin went next to the window; actually it sort of kind of slops over the window frame a wee bit on the right side, but in the early days of our marriage DH & I lived in some apartments that looked worse... (don't ask)
To make the bedside table I used one window punchout, the two rectangular picture frame punchouts and one of the front bay side window punchouts.
I temporarily glued one of the picture frame punchouts along one side of the window punchout and marked where the long bay window punchout came to the inside edge of the second frame punchout when I butted the square end against the glued piece. I snipped that part off with the E Z Cutter and laid it on top of the remaining punchout and cut a second piece; these were the shelves. I wiped off all the glue and stained all the pieces of wood cherry (to match the captain's bed). I reglued the former frame punchout back to the right edge of the window punchout and I glued the two shelves to it and to the adjacent window punchout, and then glued the second frame punchout to the ends of the shelves and the left edge of the window punchout.
I still have to dress the bed (make a mini quilt and pillows) and finish the tablecloth I'm crocheting. I forgot when I started that crochet cotton makes great mini rugs, NOT linens, so I got out the #14 hook & the sewing thread (golden yellow) and I am MUCH happier with it. I'm also still thinking of kitchen shelves, just because it needs something.
