3/19/06, siding, excitement & the porch revisited
I put the siding on the front porch walls and painted it, now I'm putting the rest of the siding on the exterior. I did the walls on either side of the kitchen bay and the upstairs wall (bathroom) above it, and then both the back wall pieces. I'm not going to put siding on the window part of the bay, but the flat wall below it looks nekkid without SOMETHING, so I put siding on it to see how I liked it, and I like it very much.
I am using the EZ Cutter to cut the siding strips and the scissors to cut the curves where the siding needs to be cut away for the curved windows.
Once the strips were on & the glue dried I noticed some of the tabs were covered and I trimmed the excess siding off with my utility knife. I'm very glad I had a nice new, sharp blade in it, because despite my care it slipped and I got a nice neat, clean surgical slice on the first distal joint of my left ring finger; prompt first aid & pressure and it's already forming a healthy scab. This gave me some time to "cobble" a little table for the front porch. I used one of my golf tees, one of the circles leftover from the pub stooltops and a window punchout from one of the many Buttercup kits.
After I glued the pieces together & they dried I painted them white.
I also mentioned I had to disassemble the porch to "adjust" the bottom pieces, the assembly is back in the gluing jig getting the front and kitchen side back together. When I complete the siding (two walls to go) I'll hang the front door, install the downstairs ceilings and untape the swing & stick the table down with poster putty, and then the porch can go on when the rest of the build is done.
I got a kitchen stove with the 40% off coupon from Hobby Lobby.
