The Finished Product

After a total of nine months, I finally declared the house finished. Overtime, I'm sure some of the interior settings may change (already planning on replacing my pool table with a grand piano). As a first house with the features the Lily has, i.e. wrap-around porch, mansard roof, and bay wall, I had made up my mind that it would probably take me a year. Therefore, I was very please that I finished ahead of my pre-set schedule. This was not nine months of constantly building, during this time a older brother had heart surgery, a new granddaughter was born, a vacation was taken, and letting the house sit while "brain storming" ways to approach each new section was taken.

Valuable lessons for the next house was learned, the windows do not need to go in first ;) , a little more attention to filling/sanding tabs for a smoother finish and the importance of templates for walls are the ones that come immediately to mind.

Warning to all though, this hobby is addicting, fun but very enjoyable, some people will cheer you on and others will think you've lost your mind or entered your second childhood. My personal feeling is that if everyone would let their inner child out to play, the world would be a better place.

Drapes in the living room were made using a valance pattern given on this site and using the equivalent of corrugated cardboard made of plastic. Other curtains were made from scraps picked up in the cloth section of Walmart, and the one on the 2nd floor with the stairs from one of my boss's ties. We used wire coat hangers for to hang them on, and Riley made the curtain holder from scrap wood from the kit. The finials on the end of the curtain rod was taken from some left over nail hold cover ups from a kitchen cabinet we put together for my Mama years ago. The bay windows in the bedroom and bath were outlined with trim. The folding wall was made using scrap wood and vinyl wallpaper, it drove Riley nuts that the bathroom was open to the little people coming up the stairs B) .

The chimney wasn't built due to the fact that I left no room for a fireplace. In the bedroom--my little people use gas.
