The best part
My favorite part of the instructions are always the ones that say it's time to sit back and enjoy your creation. I always follow those instructions to the letter. It's very satisfying to spend some quiet time at the end of the build just admiring the results.
Here are the end results of the completed French Quarter Lily. (the garden on the side is the one I made in Tracy's wonderful online flower border class) There are more detailed pictures of the finished house (both exterior and interior) in the members gallery as well.
I've had a wonderful time building the Lily. She was a bit more of a challenge then the other houses I've built, but that’s because she has so much character. I liked the kit when I first started building it, but along the way, I fell in love with the house itself.
We've joked on the forum about how this house is so chatty and opinionated that it tells you what it wants to be, but there is a lot of truth to that. As you build this house, it starts developing it's own flow of construction and guides you along with it. In that sense, it was one of the easiest houses I've built because things just "happened" along the way.
I had quite a few pieces left over from the kit that I didn't use and honestly, when I looked at the pieces leftover, I wasn't even sure what they had been intended for in the first place. Looking at the completed house, I'm pretty sure that she just didn't want those pieces in this incarnation. I did make a conscious decision not to use the tiny bits of gingerbread trim under the verges. With the French Quarter style, they just didn't fit in with the look.
So, that's my Lily. If you're reading this, I hope that it means that you're building one (or are considering building one) as well and that you enjoy it every bit as much as I did.
