For once I began at Step A, Part 1, R&P walls & floors. Time & how this little house wants to wind up will determine how long that lasts.

Today I finished scribing the first floor, sanded it and stained it with Min Wax golden oak stain with polyurethane, which I applied with a rag, like I do gel stain. I have determined I prefer the control this gives me to lay in the color, and there are no brush marks. It took two fairly light coats to bring up the lines. When it was totally dry I gave it a once over with a piece of brown paper and it looks good.

The bedroom and bathroom will be in the attic (for which I'll probably make a foamboard wall), with some sort of tile or other treatment for the bedroom and bathroom floors. I also hope to get some siding to do the exterior, so I primed the interior walls, the first floor ceiling and the second floor.

I didn't like the single piece of plywood punched out for the kitchen door, since it's not compatible with my style of hinging, so I took a leftover Houseworks interior door (I miscounted when building my Cambridge) and drew around it and then used my utility knife and steel straight edge to cut the door frame bigger. I'll use the door trim to "pad" the difference in depth between the 1/8" plywood walls and the nearly 1/4" door depth, so the Houseworks trim will also work.

I'm going to "experiment" with the exterior to see if the siding adheres better to unsealed wood than to sealed (and because I really want to get started assembling this little house). None of the walls in DH's grandparents' house were papered, so the next part will be to decide if I want to go with all white walls or to paint some of them.
