The concept

My biggest issue was settling on the right number of architectural elements out of the so, so many I really like, and finding a way to combine them. The ever-battle of 'will this go with that', and so on. I settled on Mid-Century Modern as an overall base, with some inluence from the great mid-century architect Joseph Eichler: Open floorplans with lots of light, and courtyard areas to drink in nature.

My times in Japan have also left an indelible mark on me, and I want to include some bits and pieces from their beautiful traditional homes. Certainly both Frank Lloyd Wright and Joseph Eichler were influenced by Japanese design, function, and simplicity.

My times in Old Mexico have also left their mark, with the thick adobe walls and big verandas. High ceilings with massive wood beams. Lots of rock!

I love rocks!

And equally important is my deep connection with the Irish peasantry. I adore their old, simple homes, and their utilitarian furnishings. I am especially attached to the famine period (1845-1852), and indeed it is because of my fleeing, hungry ancestors that my own birth in the United States would happen some generations later. My great-great-great grandparents came looking for work and something to eat. Perhaps someday I will make a doll house with an old Irish cottage filled with simple, rustic furniture, smokey fireplaces, and dolls in period peasant costume. It will be my homage to Vincent van Gogh and his humility.

As if this was not enough already, I really love Mel's cabin in the series 'Virgin River'. Can I squeeze it in?

Can I do all of this in 1:12 scale?
